On Easter Sunday (Well, duh.. when doesn't it fall on a Sunday??), we stopped to see my uncle prior to going to my in-laws house.
He was sleeping pretty good, not too heavy though, as he awoke to our presence/fidgeting from the kids...
At first, he wasn't sure what was going on, but after a few seconds, his eyes lit up the way people do when they realize WTF is going on after waking up.
He said that he was feeling terrible and that he was going to finally quit the chemo therapy.
What was good about the chemo process was that it was cleaning out the cancer. There's a blood protein that can be monitored, and it went from almost 1,000 in mid December to almost 64 this last week. It's supposed to be maybe 1... Maybe 1 at all.
This is both a good thing and a bad thing for him. The bad part is that the process is going to stop, and it can ramp back up again. For the good, he's going to stop getting ill and not feeling well, and we can concentrate on making him feeling well and enjoying the rest of his life.
After all at 83 years old, would you rather end your days in painful misery of not feeling well, or partially "stoned" (for better words of lots of pain pills) and enjoying everything around you.
I hope the weather clears up this week, I'd like to take him for an excursion/drive around one of the local lakes this week.
