Prior to moving to a developer role, I was a ruthless & aggressive Technical Support guy. My style was never rude to the customers, but it was very, very effective for getting things done.
My boss used to introduce me to his new hires as
"the only person, I know, who could ever walk up and down a customer, pointing out that the problem was never the fault of the software, and have the customer thank him for being smacked around".That isn't exactly the quote, but it was pretty close to that.
Well, I updated on Tuesday that my uncle was supposed to stay for another week at the nursing home instead of going back to his apartment at the care facility.
I thought that the nursing home "knew better" and I never told them that he should stay. Except that if they thought he should, then so be it.
Yesterday, the care facility personnel went over to check on some of their other "residents", taking their nurse with them.
So, they checked out my uncle and said that he should really come home. The nursing home staff told them "that his nephew (me), wanted him to stay another week."
I called around a bit last night when I found out and told the nursing home that if my uncle had his pain under control, which he had, that he should do what he wants to. Hell, he's old enough to know what he wants.
My uncle is old, but he's not befuddled! If it came to a battle of where he should live, or of a choice of freedom of being held down, he'd rather live in a tent in my backyard.
Now, we'd never let him live in a tent, but we would rather have him living at a facility, where his apartment current is at, where they can care for him better than we could. I work all day long (usually), and my wife has a job too. So we're not really available to care for him like an assisted living facility or nursing home can.
He loves the Assisted Living facility he lives in, but hates the nursing home. (He has a room mate at the nursing home and he hates that.)
Pain-wise, he's under control now.
From what my wife was saying to me last night, that some nursing homes like to "capture & hold" people there... saying... "let us see how (he/she) is doing next week before sending them home"... Then it's weeks & weeks later or never.
I'm a freedom person, very much a libertarian if you want to label me.
I'd rather have freedoms to make right & wrong choices, than to not have freedom to make any choice.
Give me liberty or give me death!
