My uncle has been released from the hospital to a nursing home, where he'll be rehabilitated and molly coddled.
He's got a bad case of Sundowners Syndrome. Which means that in the morning he should pretty much himself, but as the day wears on, towards the afternoon he starts to act crazy as the neighbor kid on RC cola & pixy sticks.
Last week, he called me various times after 2-3. Usually wondering if he's legally OK for what he's doing. One day it was for Boy Scouts, then another he was worried as hell the Girl Scouts were out to get him.
Another day he was certain that he had gotten into some really bad legal problems and wanted to know if I had it taken care of.
I always humor his requests and phone calls. If I don't then he starts to really get excited and with a broken hip, I worry about him starting to push himself really far and getting into trouble.
I wished that my cousins could help deal with their dad, but it doesn't seem as though it's going to go that way.
Too bad for me, but good for my Uncle, I suppose. At least I'm there for him, else he'd be all alone. That's no way to live your life.
Granted, there are times I love to be alone, but all in all, I'd rather be with Ellie than anything else in life.
