The "real" race thoughts.
My involvement with the race was pretty good yesterday, except when chatting with another HAM that I really like to chat with. ("by golly")
This other HAM bitched a little bit, which got me to thinking that perhaps I had been taken in by the HAM who organized the event.
If we were asked to handle emergency communications, then we were passing on all sorts of other traffic that wasn't related at all to emergencies.
After my work was done, and I was done shooting the breeze, I left.
Since Ellie's parents live on the race route and on the way back home, I stopped there. Ellie and the Misses spent most of the weekend there since I was going to be at the race.
It was pretty hot in the day by the time I stopped by, so I just said hello and drove home.
On the way home, I was trying to pass the racers safely and did so... but I got pretty fucking perturbed by the way some of the racers handled being behind and in front of me.
98% of these racers were happy to move and appreciated that I didn't want to zoom around them on the corners where I couldn't see and I didn't feel safe passing them on.
On a downhill stretch I passed one racer, and then got "stuck" behind another one who was riding her brakes pretty hard to prevent a really fast descent.
The guy I first passed came pretty fast behind us, and passed me on the right and I could barely see him. There was NOT very much room for my feeling of safety for his helmetted ass.
That was only a little bit of what soured me a bit further.
When I got to where the road was really wide and these guys were in city limits, two of these guys were riding side by side and even though I was behind them, and I KNOW they knew I was there, they didn't go single file to let me pass.
I had to wait behind them until oncoming traffic passed me so that I could give this asshole safe space between me and him.
My original destination wasn't going right home. It was to go to our base operations at the finish line.
Since I got a bit soured by this last ass, I just went home.
There I got everything unpacked, turned on the fans because it was damn hot, got a bowl of ice cream then watched a movie.
Well, to keep this fucking long ass narrative a bit shorter, I just chilled out until Ellie and the Misses got home.
