It's known that I generally work from home because of my unusual sleep schedule and migraines.
Today, my older daughter is at home, because she had a headache. My wife approved this, without checking in with me. (i.e. if I wanted/needed to go to the office, I cannot because I cannot leave her alone.)
My earlier headache was still lingering around, and without ice cream to help cool down my head, I needed to go to the store to get some.
I went downstairs to find my daughter on the couch, with her feet up, reading a book that wasn't related to school work or what her mom had told her to do.
Prior to leaving, I had to use the bathroom, so I told my daughter to get her shoes on and get ready while I was busy.
When I was done, she did not get things done or started until she heard the door handle rattle.
Then it was a day & a night to get her shoes & coat on.
She took her book with her to read, but then never opened it, and left it in the car because you really don't want to walk around reading a book and run into things the way texters do.
On the way home, I asked her if she needed to go to school. Or if she had problems with anyone at school.
She answered no to both questions.
When we returned, I got my ice cream, while she started doing the laundry my wife asked her to start. Well, when she was done with that, I found her in bed, listening to music, and she told me that she thought she would try to take a nap...
I told her I was considering taking her to school at that point. She can be tired at school for her decisions to stay up late. My parents did the same thing to me.
Next, I found her on the couch working on her "homework"... She said she had "forgotten" about it, despite being asked by me & my wife on Friday after school if she had any homework... The usual answer "no". Asked her if she wanted to go to school and explain to the teacher why her homework wasn't done. Of course... "no".
At this point, I think the next time she complains about a headache, I'm going to give her Tylenol, and send her to school.
If after a while she gets worse, then she can come home. This type of thing has happened much to often recently.
Since the start of the year, she's been home, "sick", 2-4 times. (Sorry, I cannot remember, but I'm considering starting a log of my own now.)
You know... I used to do stupid stuff to get out of school, myself. From walking out during the lunch hour, to jumping the fence to get off school grounds and walking ever back alley to get home. Very rarely did I try to do this, especially when my parent(s) were home. (I was in high school when I started playing hooky... Some days were just too nice to spend in a classroom.)
I expect this, but not from an elementary school student.
