During Wednesday evening, Middle Miss was trying to continue reading "Gossamer" by Lois Lowry.
Middle Miss's vocal range is one, that if she doesn't project her voice and enunciate well, I have a hard time hearing, unless I have my hearing aids in.
When she started to read, I told her that I couldn't hear her for some reason and to speak louder, slower & more pronounced. Then I told myself that I wanted to hear her and the story.
For some reason then, my body and mind finally melted back together after the day's over all FUBAR-ness.
I was able to hear and understand her while she read last night better than any other night before she was reading the story.
To help her, I did give her some suggestions for changing her voice a bit for each character that was speaking, so that it would be easier for someone just listening to understand the dialog better.
She did a REALLY good job after that too.
For me, I think the defining moment of this was that I WANTED to listen. I WANTED to hear.
It was like making that choice actually made a difference in my mindset and being for the rest of the night.
So school was originally set on a two hour delay today instead of outright being cancelled, so the kids were sent to be around 8:30-ish.
Well, I couldn't sleep well or seem to shut down my brain's activity very well.
I laid in bed next to Ellie and couldn't sleep. Got up, sat in my chair for a while, read emails posted/responded to things on +being bipolar.
Went back to the bed again... Sleep still eluded me, so I turned on the Kindle, intending at first to continue reading a book.... Instead I left it at "Grid Detective", which is a Logic Puzzle game.
So, I played through several of those puzzles, which were easier for me since I'd spent so much time over the last month on the Puzzle Baron's site playing those puzzles.
After the 3rd or 4th puzzle I completed on the first try, I felt tired enough to sleep.... Turns out it was just after midnight.
I slept...
